SAT App Grows 'Smarter' the More You Use It
Math Goes Mobile As Students Face Next Round Of Testing
NEW YORK, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- With the next round of SAT testing coming up soon, why spend money on costly review courses and books when you can study right on your mobile device at a fraction of the cost? Adapster, the first adaptive test preparation app available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, is bringing SAT math prep to the masses and now offers several new features to would-be test takers, including innovative adaptive tests and a free diagnostic exam with detailed score reports. It is the only app of its kind that actually learns a student's strengths and weaknesses and creates a custom study plan tailored to their needs, allowing them to focus on what they need to know instead of what they have already mastered.
Adapster, created by Empire Edge, is currently available in both a full version ($9.99 USD) and a free "Flex" version, which provides a diagnostic test and allows you to purchase only the parts you need based on a number of subject areas and sub-topics relating to the math portion of the SAT exam. The full version comes loaded with 150 lessons and over 1,000 questions written by a team of professional educators to mimic SAT math problems as closely as possible. Input formats include both multiple choice and "grid-in" formats. With the addition of adaptive tests, instead of having to choose a particular area to work on yourself, the app can suggest problem areas for you to target.
"Adapster is a great alternative to costly review courses and books and adds much more value to the preparation process," says Jody Steinglass, himself a tutor for 15 years and the founder and president of Empire Edge, a New York City-based educational services company. "My vision is for this technology to extend far beyond standardized tests and help give students a more personalized experience in classrooms."
Unlike any other review book or test prep app on the market today, Adapster recreates the dynamic of the tutor-student relationship and does so in the palm of your hand. Users may choose from three modes: Diagnostic, Practice and Study. Diagnostic provides a timed section and exposure to a variety of different questions, Practice contains the 1,000+ questions from which to answer and Study features over 150 detailed math lessons and strategies. Additionally, each question has its own unique hint that reflects what a tutor might suggest and therefore promotes better problem-solving skills. Answer a question wrong and you get a detailed, hand-written solution to the problem, right there on your screen.
A Web-based version of Adapster is currently in development, as are study modules for reading and writing portions of the SAT. Adapster is available through iTunes in the App Store on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and a demo of the app can be viewed at www.adapster.com. Promo codes are available upon request for qualified reviewers.
