DALLAS, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Fall is just around the corner, and with temperatures dropping, forests in most of America will soon be painted with vibrant hues of deep reds, golden yellows, and amber oranges. Hotels.com® Fall Sale offers up to 30% savings on hotels in the best areas for leaf peeping. Travelers can choose from over 1,200 hotels located in select cities where average room prices have dropped from one to four percent from last year, according to the latest Hotels.com September 2010 Hotel Price Index™ (HPI®) that was released on earlier this month. Bookings need to be made by October 11 for travel between now and October 25.

"With the seasons changing and the weather cooling down, our Hotels.com Fall Sale offers great value in hotspots where travelers can enjoy a getaway to enjoy the beginning of the fall season," says Taylor L. "The latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index shows average room prices are down in beautiful regions like the Pacific Northwest, New England areas and the deep south. It's an ideal time to take advantage of these extra savings."

Pacific Northwest

Travelers can head to Washington for great fall foliage in October and incredible savings since average room prices in this state are down three percent from $126 per night in 2009 to $122 per night this year, according to the HPI study.

Stay in Seattle as a starting point for a weekend visit to Wenatchee National Forest in Washington – only an hour and half drive by car. For the best savings, stay at the MarQueen Hotel where rooms start at $112 a night, which saves guests 25% when they stay two nights or more. This three star hotel has been recommended by 93% of past guests. The HPI study reports that Seattle hotels saw average room prices fall by one percent, from $139 in 2009 to $138 in 2010.

Leaf peepers eyeing the changing colors in the Pacific Northwest can find amber hues mixed with brilliant reds east of Portland, Oregon at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Mid to late October offers travelers the best show of color when the seasons change. Visitors can bring along their family dog and stay at the Shilo Inn Suites where nights start at $58 when staying two nights or more – a savings of 20%. Guests will also be offered complimentary breakfast.

Visitors can begin their fall foliage road trip by staying-and-saving in Sacramento before heading to Eldorado National Forest, part of Yosemite National Park. The three star Radisson Sacramento is now offering their 3rd night free with rooms starting at $60. Leaves peak at the end of September and beginning of October. Average room prices of hotels in the City by the Bay are $92 this year instead of $96 in 2009 – a change of four percent, according to the HPI study.

New England

It's peak season for leaf viewing in New England and when travelers head to Killington, Vermont they'll be able to save 20% on their entire stay at the Inn of the Six Mountains Hotel where nights start at $84 and receive complimentary breakfast. Guests can take in the fall colors at the Mt. Horrid Observation Site which sits at the base of the 800 foot Mt. Horrid Cliff before returning to their three and half star hotel. Hotels in Vermont saw a one percent drop in average room prices in 2010, according to the HPI study.

Families who want to stay in town can enjoy popular foliage viewing locales in Newport, Rhode Island. When in town, guests can save 35% at Americas Cup Inn where staying three nights will only cost $103 per night. Travelers should also head to Conanicut Island which offers great views of the Narragansett Bay framed by hues of reds, yellows, and plum colored leaves.

Guests looking for a deeper discount can save 50% when staying four nights at The Hotel Providence in Providence, Rhode Island. This four star hotel is recommended by 89% of past Hotels.com guests and starts at $90 a night. Leaf peepers should head to Goddard State Park in East Greenwich, which offers miles of hiking alongside an incredible array of maple, beech, and birch trees.

The Mid West

Colorado easily could be a competitor to New England in mid-September with over one billion Aspen trees that turn into varying degrees of canary yellow. Autumn lovers can stay in Denver at the three and half star Burnsley All Suite Hotel and save 30% on their stay with rooms starting at $109. Scenic hour-long drives on Peak to Peak Highway will lead travelers to Estes Park, the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, which in addition to the golden aspen trees, offers views of snow capped peaks, green pine trees, and blue skies.  

The South

Texas may not show up on a leaf peepers radar, but the Lost Maples State Natural Area boasts a changing mix of red and yellow maples in mid-October and is only 86 miles northwest of San Antonio. Visitors to this area can stay in the Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonia where rooms start at $97 a night. Stay three nights and you can save 30% at this four star hotel. This city saw no change in average room prices from 2009 to 2010, according to the HPI study. Average room price: $116.
