Sawgrass LNG & Power Begins Supplying LNG to Walker's Cay, Expanding Bahamas Presence
MIAMI, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sawgrass LNG & Power announced today that it has begun supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Walker's Cay, the legendary sportfishing destination in the northern Bahamas, replacing diesel as the fuel source for the island's power generation.
The project expands Sawgrass' growing presence across The Bahamas, where the company has supplied LNG to resorts, utilities, and industrial customers for more than eight years. As a leading LNG supplier in the Caribbean, Sawgrass produces LNG at its Miami liquefaction facility and delivers fuel via ISO containers, providing customers with a lower-cost, lower-emission alternative to diesel. As the largest exporter of U.S. LNG via ISO container, Sawgrass has pioneered a LNG delivery model that brings reliable energy to islands and remote facilities without the need for costly infrastructure.
Walker's Cay is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment led by philanthropist and sportsman Carl Allen. Located near to the protected waters of Walker's Cay National Park, the island has long been recognized for its world-class fishing, diving, and pristine marine environment. As part of its modernization, Walker's Cay has transitioned its on-island power generation from diesel to LNG, reducing fuel costs, lowering emissions, and improving the long-term sustainability of the island.
