SCCE announces 13th Annual International Compliance & Ethics Award recipients

MINNEAPOLIS, July 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE) announced today it will host the 13^th Annual International Compliance & Ethics Awards Dinner during the 2017 Compliance & Ethics Institute on Monday evening, October 16, 2017. This event recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to the growing profession of compliance and ethics.

The Compliance and Ethics profession is now one of the fastest growing professions and has become truly global. In today's world, compliance and ethics professionals are increasingly a regular part of the business senior management structure, with government regulators and enforcement leaders recognizing the value of compliance and ethics within organizations and institutions. This was not always the case, as the recognition of the profession happened slowly and with the help of many individuals, organizations, and corporate leaders. Numerous individuals and organizations have helped shape and guide the profession, provide an example for the compliance and business communities, and herald its value in business.

The 13^th Annual International Compliance & Ethics Award recipients:
Michael Horowitz is the Inspector General at the Department of Justice (DOJ), where his office is responsible for detecting and deterring waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. Since 2015, Mr. Horowitz has also been the Chair of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE).

Stephen Cohen is a partner in the Washington, DC office of Sidley Austin LLP. He recently joined Sidley Austin after 12 years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Most recently, he was Associate Director of Enforcement after serving as senior advisor to Chairman Mary Schapiro where he advised on legal and policy matters and spent four years as an assistant chief litigation counsel.

Bojan Bajić is co-founder and CEO of Net Consulting ltd. from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, specialized to support implementation of corporate compliance and ethics programs and development of integrity standards in variety of high-risk areas and different industries in the Western Balkans region. He is also the coordinator of Initiative for Whistleblower Protection, where he played the leading role in adoption of the first European whistleblowers protection law with pre-court protecting mechanism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Višnja Marilović works as a lead ethics and compliance consultant at Net Consulting Ltd. from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, specialized to support public and private clients in implementation of corporate compliance and ethics programs. Her career in compliance started in 2011, at the moment when she reported corruption in the finance department in a public company, although at that time she was not aware of compliance, or of what whistleblowing was. Her family was under police protection for two months after her reporting of corruption. Two years later, her case was used as a case study for development and adoption of the law for protection of whistleblowers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Center for Compliance studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law – Award to be accepted by Ryan Meade, an attorney and consultant in Chicago, Illinois who focuses his professional work on health care regulatory issues. The Center for Compliance Studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law is dedicated to preparing students, business, health care professionals, and attorneys for careers in compliance and developing compliance as an academic discipline.
