KATY, Texas, Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Schmidt Funeral Home, owned by leading death care services provider Carriage Services (NYSE: CSV), today announced the purchase of 10 acres of land fronting The Grand Parkway in Katy, which will soon be home to its second funeral services business in the area.

The Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway location will be conveniently located near Grand Parkway and Bay Hill Boulevard, south of I-10. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately.

Established in 1945, Schmidt Funeral Home has been serving Katy, Texas for over 60 years. In September of 2012, Carriage Services acquired the business. The owner, Hank Schmidt Jr., remained involved in the business as a consultant, while long time employee Cyndi Hoots is being named the business's Managing Partner. The acquisition of Schmidt Funeral Home represented Carriage's first acquisition in Harris County.
