CARSON CITY, Nev., Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- School choice is working for Nevada families – but thousands of additional children deserve access to the schools of their parents' choice. That's the key message of a major event being planned in Carson City on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, organizers said today.
Timed to celebrate National School Choice Week (January 25-31, 2015), the event in Carson City will bring together hundreds of education reform supporters at the Capitol Amphitheatre at 10:00 am. Students, parents, teachers, community leaders, and elected officials will deliver remarks.
The event will spotlight the importance of all types of educational choice for children and families, including traditional public schools, public magnet schools, public charter schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling.
"Nevada public charter schools and supporters are excited to be part of National School Choice Week in 2015," said Lauren Hulse, Executive Director of the Charter School Association of Nevada. "Many parents and students enjoy the option of choosing a quality charter that provides individualized education within the public school system, but many parents are still not aware of their school choice options. We hope to change that."
Elissa Wahl, of Nevada Homeschool Network said, "I am excited to see that Nevada's School Choice event will include homeschoolers. Communicating the benefits and opportunities of parent directed home education during School Choice Week 2015 gives Nevada parents one more choice in how their children are educated."
Seth Rau, of Nevada Succeeds said, "It's great to know so many Nevadans see that choice is one of the answers to ensure that our state can have an excellent education system. This upcoming legislative session gives us the opportunity to make significant progress towards that goal."
The "Nevada Supports School Choice" event is planned by Nevada Succeeds, Nevada Policy Research Institute, RISE Education Resource Center, Bailey Charter Elementary School, Charter School Association of Nevada, and the Nevada Homeschool Network.
Celebrated every year in January, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on all types of effective education options for children, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online learning, and homeschooling. The celebration is nonpartisan and nonpolitical. National School Choice Week 2015 will feature a history-making 10,000 independently-planned and independently-funded events across all 50 states.
