KENNETT SQUARE, Pa., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- SCO Logistics, a leading logistics services provider, announced today that it has joined the SmartWay(SM) Transport Partnership, an innovative collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the transportation industry designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.
SCO achieved a score of 1.25, the highest score awarded by SmartWay. Partners with a score of 1.25 are recognized as already employing carriers who are utilizing fuel saving strategies that maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
"SCO Logistics is committed to the objectives of SmartWay," said Frank McGuigan, CEO of SCO Logistics. "By working with the carrier community and our customers, we will further the SmartWay initiative by providing environmentally cleaner, more fuel efficient transportation options that have a positive impact on the environment, as well as ultimately provide cost-effective, long term logistics solutions."
SCO will contribute to the Partnership's goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012 by improving the environmental performance of their logistics operations. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog.
By joining the SmartWay Transport Partnership, SCO demonstrates its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
