DEL MAR, Calif. and NEW YORK, Aug. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ScoreStream, the first and leading crowdsourcing platform for live local sports, and The Associated Press (AP), an independent, not-for-profit news cooperative, today announced a collaboration that will bring more timely local high school sports scores to ScoreStream distribution partners and AP member news organizations and customers. This arrangement provides a new way for fans to report local sports scores to the AP as well as the first time the news agency will leverage crowdsourced data for its high school score reporting.
"Working with the AP is true validation of what we are trying to accomplish with our platform," said Derrick Oien, CEO of ScoreStream. "We are thrilled to be collaborating with such a well-respected news organization to share high school sports scores across the nation."
The collaboration will kick off this fall with the distribution and publication of high school football scores across 42 states and both boys and girls high school basketball scores in 33 states. Fans will be able to report local scores via ScoreStream, where both organizations will validate the information prior to its publication. The AP provided scores from these states in the past but now will be leveraging the speed of ScoreStream's data to provide them more quickly each game day.
"AP embraces innovation in all aspects of our journalism and our business," said Jim Kennedy, senior vice president for strategy and enterprise development at The Associated Press. "We think ScoreStream's crowdsourced solution for high-school sports scores is unmatched and we can break new ground together for the benefit of AP's member news organizations and customers across the U.S."
Besides this new collaboration with AP, ScoreStream has partnership and distribution deals with most of the nation's top broadcast television, radio and newspaper companies and media groups.
