Nearly 320,000 children in southeast Michigan rely on free or reduced-price meals in
school. Over the summer, when school is out, these children often go without the food
they need to grow and be healthy, leaving them at risk of life-long effects of hunger and
malnutrition. Hunger Free Summer, underwritten by the Charter One Foundation, helps
alleviate the hunger needs of our children.
