Sears Helps Maine Residents Access Up to $300 in Rebates on ENERGY STAR(R)-Qualified Home Heating and Cooling Equipment

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sears Home Services™ is helping Maine residents access the $1,263,000 in rebates available for ENERGY STAR®-qualified home heating and systems beginning May 1 until funds are exhausted, as part of the "Cash for Appliances" rebate program. As the 2010 ENERGY STAR Retail Partner of the Year, Sears has revamped its website, Sears.com/energystar to include even more tools to help Americans learn about ENERGY STAR, search for rebates and credits, find the right appliance and dispose of the old one properly, and take small steps to make a big difference. In an effort to help Maine residents better manage the rebate process, the Sears site also includes an interactive map, energy savings rebate calculator and information about ENERGY STAR products that qualify for the state rebates so customers can quickly and easily identify their favorite brands and models that are available for in-store purchase.

Under the U.S. Department of Energy-approved appliance rebate plan for Maine, residents purchasing ENERGY STAR-qualified home heating and cooling systems qualify for rebates from $100 to $300(1). In order to qualify for the following rebates, residents are required to replace an existing, less-efficient heating system with a high-efficiency model.

• $100 for gas tankless water heaters
• $100 for central air conditioners
• $100 for gas and oil furnaces
• $150 for electric heat pump water heaters
• $250 for air source heat pumps
• $200 - $300 for gas and oil boilers

For Maine homeowners interested in purchasing energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR-qualified home heating systems, Sears Home Services will assist shoppers from start to finish. They can:

• Direct consumers to 1-800-766-6298 to arrange an in-home appointment

The Sears project consultant who performs the home visit will provide details at that time on eligible ENERGY STAR-qualified HVAC systems and applicable rebates. The project consultant will also supply the required forms and certificates so the Maine homeowner can apply for the appropriate rebates. After installation of the new, ENERGY STAR-qualified system is complete, Sears Home Services will dispose of the old, inefficient HVAC unit according to the appropriate Maine State laws.
