Second Annual Lions Club Symposium in California Has Dr. Oz as Keynote; Event Moderator Highlights Spot Vision Screener

LAKE MARY, Fla., July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- PediaVision, maker of the Spot vision screener, was among the exhibitors at a June 8 symposium hosted by the Peninsula Special Interest Lions Club (PSILC) and Lions In Sight. Held at the Oracle Conference Center in Redwood City, Calif. and attended by luminaries Dr. Mehmet Oz, who served as the keynote speaker, and Deepak Chopra, the event drew approximately 450 people, with 200 more arriving for the event's evening functions.

Dr. Bill Iannaccone, chief operations officer of Lions In Sight and past international director for Lions Club International, and Dr. Eleanor Britter, president of PSILC, put together the symposium, which raised funds and increased public awareness of the organizations' health services, especially services for women and children. "PSLIC is the only true medical club in the Lions network," said Britter. "Dr. Oz is a member and he joined our symposium committee last year when we first created this event. He's agreed to come back every year to update the public. Deepak Chopra is also a member of the symposium committee and he'll be doing the same."

Iannaccone agreed. "The attendance at our restaurant walks and poker tournaments often raise $7,000 or $8,000 per event," he said.

As he opened the symposium, Iannaccone made special mention of taking the Spot device on a clinic mission (a trip to provide vision-related treatment and services to international communities) to Peru in late May. One of Lions In Sight's activities is enlisting licensed optometrists as volunteers to provide free primary eye care to needy and low-income citizens in economically disadvantaged countries. Lions In Sight has increased its clinic missions to more than 10 a year.

"In Peru, we were able to provide care to 4,800 people, compared to 3,200 people without them. Every single one of our doctors loves the machine and can't believe how easy and accurate it is.
