Dave Williams, Vice President of Procurement for Airbus Americas, and Robert Wrigley, Vice President-Government Relations for Airbus Americas, joined several local dignitaries including Tucson Mayor, Jonathan Rothschild and Oro Valley Mayor, Satish Hiremath to celebrate the partnership with employees.
Dave Williams said, "We're here today to celebrate a very special milestone. We've recently reached our 10th anniversary of working together to create innovative aircraft that serve our customers well. The first Airbus contract with Securaplane was signed 10 years ago during the development of the A380 program. Since then, Securaplane's Cockpit Door Surveillance System components are found across Airbus' single-aisle, long-range and A380 fleet and are part of our "smart cockpit" display. Our successful collaboration has shown the best of innovation that comes out of Arizona, and the U.S."
Shubhayu Chakraborty, President of Securaplane, said, "We are delighted to host this event with Airbus at our new facility in Oro Valley. This event shows what a partnership between two organizations committed to commercializing value-added innovation can achieve. I am confident that Airbus and Securaplane will continue to bring customer benefits in security, safety, efficiency, and convenience with future innovations.
Securaplane provides Cockpit Door Surveillance Systems (CDSS) to Airbus on the A320, A330, A340 and A380 aircraft. The CDSS system ensures that individuals seeking entry into the cockpit are authorized and not under duress which requires the ability to not only see the individual requesting entry but also to clearly identify that person. The distinction is important because if the system components are not chosen carefully, the ability to properly and consistently identify entrants in all cabin conditions is compromised.
The CDSS consists of three cameras feeding a central processing unit that, in turn, feeds video to the cockpit displays or can drive up to three monitors. Depending on camera field of view and customer mounting location, additional cameras may be installed to provide sufficient situational awareness for the pilots in order to be flexible to meet all customer security needs.
