Secure America Now: On Day Of Atonement, Day Of Outrage

Activities of Iranian and Egyptian Leaders in New York on Yom Kippur Require Strong Response from U.S. Leaders

NEW YORK, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secure America Now, a nonpartisan organization, called on U.S. political leaders to denounce the public statements of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi on one of the holiest Jewish holidays, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The following statement should be attributed to Jeri Thompson, a member of Secure America Now's advisory board:

"In the past 24 hours, President Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be 'wiped off' the face of the map, and has threatened retribution upon the United States for their alliance with our closest mid-east ally.  Meanwhile, President Morsi neither has been held accountable for his statements endorsing the destruction of Israel and of attacks on the United States, nor has been asked to repudiate the more extreme and odious positions of his Muslim Brotherhood organization, including the demand that the United States release Omar Abdul Rahman, the 'Blind Sheik,' the mastermind of the 1992 World Trade Center bombing.

"Instead, the President of Iran has been given an International platform to repeat his threats, and President Morsi has been granted a similar platform by former President Bill Clinton at his Global Forum.

"It's time that Americans understood exactly the threats we face in the Middle East. History teaches us that sometimes dictators of radical regimes actually do mean what they say. With Iran getting ever closer to becoming a nuclear threat, and an increasingly radicalized Egypt aligning with Iran, America's leaders must make it clear to these radical regimes that we, too, understand that words do have meaning and actions will have consequences."
