DALLAS, Dec. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced today that it gave away over 10,000 remote video visitation sessions to visitors and inmates at Maricopa County in Arizona.
Securus launched Video Visitation at Maricopa County on November 1st bringing automation to registration, scheduling and conducting visitation sessions between Inmates and their family and friends while making visitation possible from outside the correctional facilities. "While onsite visitation is always free, remote visitation usually carries a price for the convenience of conducting visitation at home. These prices are used to pay back the hardware, storage and software costs installed by Securus," said Richard A. ("Rick") Smith.
"Visiting from home is a better experience for the parents, the kids and friends over the inconvenience of showing up at a jail, so we gave away over 10,000 free at-home visits. Before November 1st, there was no other option to visit. Family and friends had to drive, many times great distances, to the correctional facility to visit inmates, subject to availability," said Smith. Remote video visitation expands visitation opportunities beyond traditional onsite visitation operations and allows for more visitation opportunities should family and friends choose the at-home option. In fact, visitation is now available for more hours each week than ever before because of the technology implemented by Securus' video visitation system.
