Select Medical and Corewell Health Form Joint Venture to Build New Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital in Southeast Michigan
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. and STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Select Medical Corporation and Corewell Health today announced a joint venture partnership to build and operate a new 84-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Sterling Heights, Mich., next to Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital.
The new four-story, state-of-the-art hospital will be dedicated to patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord and brain injuries, amputations and medically complex orthopedic conditions. It will feature modern spaces and advanced rehabilitative technology centered around each patient's care plan and recovery goals to restore function, mobility and independence.
"It is a privilege to build on our existing partnership with Corewell Health to bring world-class rehabilitation care to serve the growing needs across the Southeast Michigan region," said Tom Mullin, chief executive officer, Select Medical. "We have been partners since 2017 and now we are able to extend the post-acute care continuum allowing patients to experience a seamless recovery journey from initial admission in a Corewell Health acute care hospital through specialty post-acute care to discharging home and back to community."
"Corewell Health is responding to the growing demand for inpatient rehabilitation in the region. While our expert rehabilitation team has consistently delivered exceptional care within a traditional hospital setting, this new facility will nearly quadruple Troy's current footprint and provide a dedicated setting purpose-built with the specialized spaces, technology and resources designed to enhance the recovery experience for patients," said Lamont Yoder, RN, president of Corewell Health in Southeast Michigan. "As Michigan's health care leader, expanding access to the care our communities need underscores our commitment to make the health care experience more personal, extraordinary and easier."
The joint venture hospital is in the process of proceeding through regulatory and municipal reviews and is expected to open in 2029.
