SER Jobs for Progress Announces $ 2.2 Million Department of Labor Grant Award for Its Coaching to Care Initiative

DALLAS, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- SER-Jobs for Progress National, Inc., (SER National), the nation's premier community-based organization serving the employment and training needs of the Hispanic Community and a key player in the nation's workforce investment system for 45 years, today announced that it has been awarded a $ 2.2 Million grant from the Department of Labor for its Coaching to Care Initiative.

The SER Job for Progress Coaching to Care Initiative is a program designed to facilitate healthcare career exploration for disadvantaged job seekers, using individualized encouragement and advanced technologies.

"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the Department of Labor, which will enable us to help members of the community leverage technology to improve their job prospects in the area of health based services," stated Ignacio Salazar, President & CEO, SER Jobs for Progress National, Inc. "This initiative will be implemented in partnership with eleven (11) local community-based SER-affiliated organizations and throughout a minimum of 44 sites across the country from Florida to California."

The Coaching to Care initiative will enhance the ability of over 550 Career Coaches to deliver virtual career exploration services, including healthcare careers, and it will also increase the ability of at least 28,000 job seekers to make use of and benefit from online employment resources.  

In each local market, SER has also partnered with local One-Stop Centers, workforce systems, community-colleges, and schools to expand the outreach and impact of the initiative.

The Department of Labor's Capacity-Building Grants are designed to enhance the ability of community and faith-based organizations to deliver virtual career exploration services, including health care careers.
