Serbian Cultural Festival October 15-16, 2011
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- St. George Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates its annual Serbian Festival, on Saturday, October 15 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, October 16 from Noon to 5 p.m. A fun day for the family!
ETHNIC FOODS Delicious Serbian cooking! Among the ethnic foods will be burek (fillo dough pastry filled with meat/cheese); chevaps (barbecued ground beef and pork meat rolls); pechenje (rotisserie pork); and a variety of pastries palachinke (Serbian crepes), baklava, strudel, and Serbian coffee.
ENTERTAINMENT Live Serbian music will be heard throughout the day for the public to share in the expression of Serbian culture.
FOLKLORE DANCE performances by Morava Folklore Ensemble will occur at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Witness the colorful costumes and kolo dancers. The spirit of Serbian ethnic heritage is expressed through dance, song, and music. The Ensemble's goal is to present Serbian folklore in its original form. It prides itself on the perpetuation of authentic choreography and costume design, and on the preservation of Serbian heritage.
WINE TASTING is new to the festival this year! Join us for an afternoon of wine tasting and savor the smells and flavors of various Temecula, Paso Robles and Northern California wineries.
SYMPOSIUM presentation takes place at 12:30 p.m. presented by The Very Reverend Father Bratso Krsic. This symposium will highlight Orthodox Christian teachings as a way of life in the 21st century.
CHURCH TOURS take place at 2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m., explaining church architecture, worship, symbolism, and basic precepts of the Orthodox faith. Magnificent Venetian glass mosaics cover the entire interior of the church, and otherwise can only be viewed in southeastern Europe's cathedrals and churches. Clergy and laity from all denominations are welcomed and encouraged to share in the symposium and tours.
KIDS' ZONE Carnival games with prizes, & other kid-friendly activities.
BAZAAR Festival-goers will be able to shop unique items featuring Serbian imported goods, religious icons, art, music, books, jewelry, ethnic foods, & more in the outdoor market.
ADMISSION: Entrance is $3. Children 12 and under are free!
