Serbian National ensemble KOLO from Belgrade is the Serbian government's official guardian of traditional song and dance culture, and the only professional Serbian folklore ensemble in the world.
California will have the privilege to see the new program and concert concept before the big Toronto premiere in June 2012. The last Oplenac and KOLO production "A Serbian Story" has been seen by almost three thousand people in LAC Toronto and Chicago Harris Theater in 2010.
A brand-new program and concert concept will be showcased in the California 2012 Tour which will feature over twenty costume changes, and even more dynamic performances with heightened energy never before seen. Folklore experts and concert promotion organizations around the world that have been briefed on the new program format are riveted with anticipation.
"We are very excited to work with our exclusive North American partners from Oplenac to bring this high caliber concert to the West Coast. Our soloists and musicians are looking forward to represent KOLO for the first time ever in California. Our last projects with Oplenac 'A Serbian Story' and 'KOLO 2011 tour' were huge success on the East Coast and we hope to build on it." Said Mr. Radojica Kuzmanovic KOLO Belgrade Director.
"The concert program is going to showcase Serbian traditions as well as the virtuosity of our representative ensemble and our guests from 'KOLO.' The concert will open with Serbian wedding customs from different regions inhabited by Serbs. A Serbian version of River Dance, Oplenac exclusive, called Morava-River Dance; a new and contemporary interpretation of the Serbian traditional dance will form the second part of the concert. The audience will be taken through time and will experience many cultural aspects of different Serbian regions in a dynamic and energy packed show. The final part of the concert will showcase shortened versions of selected powerful choreographies of Serbian folklore that will blow the audience away," said Mr. Vladimir Spasojevic, Oplenac Artistic Director.
