Service Economy Fuels Company Launch

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today marks the official launch of Volcanic, LLC, an experience and service design consultancy, which is among the first in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to the growing field of Service Design.

Volcanic is a spin-off of the globally recognized ad agency Sullivan Higdon & Sink (SHS), and at the outset is being spearheaded by well-known creative director John January. In addition to his role as executive creative director within SHS, he will be guiding Volcanic as an Executive on Loan to get the company up and running.

"The U.S. economy is already 80 percent service-based. That means the unique service proposition has to replace the unique selling proposition as the primary point of competitive advantage," said January. "Think of all the service moments out there – from checking into a hotel, renting a car or picking up movie tickets to checking in at an emergency room or renewing your license at the DMV. January noted that a service design consultancy is distinct from an integrated ad agency. "SHS uses remarkable ideas to increase brand recognition and reputation. Volcanic utilizes service design to ensure high expectations are met by high-quality experiences once a customer decides to engage with a product or service."

The company has already landed its first client but due to confidentiality agreements, the client will be named at a later time.
