Seven Hills Winery Acquires Old Blocks of Seven Hills Vineyard

WALLA WALLA, Wash., Dec. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven Hills Winery today announced the acquisition of the historic old blocks of Seven Hills Vineyard, located in the heart of Walla Walla Valley. As one of the first three vineyard sites established in the region and one of the first planted to Bordeaux varietals, the vineyard has played an important role in shaping the viticultural destiny of the appellation and has since emerged as one of the Pacific Northwest's grand cru sites. During its 28-year history, Seven Hills Winery has helped to define the local wine industry and has demonstrated a strong history of accolades for both Merlot and Bordeaux-style red blends. Crimson Wine Group acquired the benchmark winery in January 2016, and the purchase of the reference point vineyard signifies the latest addition to its growing portfolio in the region.

"I planted this vineyard alongside my father six years before my wife, Vicky, and I founded Seven Hills Winery," said winemaker Casey McClellan, a fourth-generation farmer who was raised in the area. "My family has a long history of working with these blocks, and it's a personal pleasure to reconnect this special land with the winery that we have built."

The land purchase encompasses approximately 109 plantable acres, including 21 acres of Seven Hills Vineyard old blocks. The original blocks were planted in 1980 and are still in production. These vines are some of the oldest commercial plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the appellation. In addition to providing fruit for the winery's acclaimed single vineyard bottlings, several other notable wineries source fruit from this site. The acquisition also includes 14 acres in The Rocks District appellation, which is known for producing world-class Syrah.

Since its inception, Seven Hills Winery has cultivated long-term relationships with top growers to establish an exceptional vineyard program. The winery also sources fruit from several other top Northwest vineyard sites, including McClellan Estate Vineyard in Walla Walla Valley and Ciel du Cheval and Klipsun on Red Mountain.
