SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Laura Cooksey, a San Francisco Bay Area esthetician who once suffered from acne herself, is known as a non-drug acne expert who has trained and certified over 200 medical and skincare professionals around the globe. She and business partner, Patrick Romani, opened Face Reality Acne Clinic in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005. They celebrate their 10th anniversary this month with their first package special for new clients.
"Our success rate is 90% -- that's nine out of ten people who are mostly clear within three months. Without any drugs. I am very proud of that," says Cooksey.
Says Patrick Romani, "We assume by the time we reach our college years our acne would be gone, but most of the clients we treat are in their twenties and have been failed by their dermatologist. We understand. We will get them clear and do it without antibiotics and Accutane. With regular check-ins and consistent use of our products, along with simple lifestyle changes, we guide our clients through the process of getting and staying clear."
The American Academy of Dermatology reports that acne affects 40-60 million Americans annually, many during their college years.
More troubling, however, are the treatments prescribed by most dermatologists, which often include isotretinion or Accutane, a drug known to cause severe depression, skeletal and liver damage, serious gastro-intestinal problems, and Crohn's Disease. So serious is this 'cure' that women of child-bearing age who are prescribed isotretinion must be on two forms of birth control and be closely monitored due to the high rate of potential birth defects.
Patients may also be prescribed antibiotics, which pose significant threat to the health and wellbeing of users. In addition to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, the overuse of antibiotics is responsible for a growing number of health issues, including chronic and life threatening diseases. According to a CDCreport, "World health leaders describe antibiotic-resistant bacteria as nightmare bacteria from which at least 2 million people in the US become infected, and over 23,000 people die."
Cooksey writes for publications such as Skin Deep, Med Esthetics, Les Nouvelles Esthetiques & Spa, and Skin Inc.
