For this year's theme, DHI asked all participating designers to choose a "Titan of Business" from entertainment, technology or fashion as the inspiration for their design. "After being given the theme of the design, Petra was the first partner that came to mind. She's an extremely creative 'Titan of Business' that continues to lead as one of Hollywood's most coveted stylists," explains Kara Smith. Petra is known for her refined and sophisticated style, dressing celebrities like Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, Faith Hill and many more.
"Fashion and interior design are connected, they use the same sensibilities. As a stylist it was an exciting experience collaborating with Kara Smith and sfa design," says Petra Flannery.
The duo decided on a concept of "tailored glamour" and "serene chaos" for the room, blending soft femininity and clean, masculine undertones. The space is highlighted with a contemporary gray and is complemented by splashes of patterns including metallic and a bit of peach.
The design combines fashion, form and function to transform Mrs. Doheny's bedroom into the ultimate stylist's studio. The main workspace in the room displays a beautiful, clean slate behind a consistent flow of gowns, shoes, fabrics, and jewelry strewn about. Fashion inspired artwork and a mood board filled with swatches, tear sheets and favorite client photos, decorate the room.
Taking center stage is a worktable from Kara Smith's furniture collection, made of lacquer and mixed metals, paired with vintage chairs. Three designer upholstered dress forms accompany a full-length mirror and a pedestal for fittings, while tailored drapery treatments accent the windows and a cozy lounge area completes the room. Brimming with boxes and accessories from top fashion houses, the closet features a plush area rug, chaise lounge and vanity.
With help from one of Hollywood's exclusives, sfa design has created a contemporary, fashion forward space that exudes power and creativity at the Greystone Mansion.
