
Shadow Tree Capital Hires Joel Magerman and Launches New Fund
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Shadow Tree Capital Management LLC, an alternative asset management company focused on the direct lending private debt markets, is very pleased to announce that effective September 8, 2014 Joel Magerman, Chairman and CEO of Bryant Park Capital LLC, has joined the firm as a principal. Joel's addition will augment Shadow Tree's established position in the private debt markets and enable the firm to advance towards the goal of becoming one of the premier direct lending specialists in the market. Joel's wealth of experience and the Bryant Park Capital relationship will bring to Shadow Tree meaningful deal sourcing capabilities across a wide array of credit opportunities, along with extensive deal structuring expertise as the firm prepares to launch its second fund, Shadow Tree Income Fund B, in the Fall of 2014.
Joel has been the Chairman and CEO of Bryant Park Capital Securities, Inc. and its parent company Bryant Park Capital LLC since 2001 and became its majority shareholder in 2003. During the course of his career Joel has been involved in closing over 100 transactions as both a principal and investment banker in sectors ranging from specialty finance to healthcare services to energy. Prior to 2001 Joel was President of Associated Venture Management, a family office where he oversaw their private company investments that invested and raised approximately $250 million for its portfolio companies, including Law Cash, Unifund and other specialized lenders. From 1991 to 1995 Joel was SVP for FCA International, a publicly-traded diversified financial services firm. In that position he was President of Structured Financial Capital, the second largest structured settlement company at the time, and co-founded Reliant Capital which purchased approximately $2 billion of non-performing consumer assets across multiple categories and returned 44% after fees to investors. In 1990, Joel was a co-founder and board member of Odyssey Golf which was later sold to Callaway Golf. From 1987 to 1990 Joel was Director of Finance and Technology at Citicorp Diners Club. Joel has his MS from the University of Pennsylvania and his BA from UCLA.
