Japanese Invasion of China in Pictures (25 volumes) is a cooperative project between Nanjing University and Shandong Pictorial Publishing House. The project was led by Prof. Zhang Xianwen, emeritus senior professor of Nanjing University and a master on history of the Republic of China.
The series is compiled in 25 volumes, arranged in chronological order and by theme. The major historical facts concerning the Japanese militarist invasion of China are represented, including the Japanese robbery of China's Southeast coast during the Ming Dynasty, the Sino-Japanese war in 1894, the Japanese surrender in 1945 and the Tokyo Trial in 1946. Coverage of events is systematic, direct and vivid and presented from the perspective of first-hand and on-the-spot pictures. There are 25,000 pictures and 2.5 million words in the book.
2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the end of the World Anti-fascist War and Chinese Anti-Japanese War. The giving of Japanese Invasion of China in Pictures to Harvard Yenching Library has great historical significance. It is worthwhile to point out that this book involves so much information about joint China-US efforts in the anti-Japanese war, such as American Volunteer Group assistance in China. Many pictures that are included have been selected from the American National Archive and American individual collectors.
The Harvard-Yenching Library has collected more than one million works of East Asian literature in Chinese, Tibetan, Manchu and Mongolian. By donating Japanese Invasion of China in Pictures Shandong Publishing Group Co., Ltd aims to educate people about the suffering caused by the Japanese invasions that began in 1840 and to expand the international influence and overseas market space of the book.
