
Shared Interest Honors Leading U.S. Financial Institutions
NEW YORK, March 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- At its 17th Annual Awards Dinner, Shared Interest, a leading non-profit social investment fund, paid tribute to two pioneering financial institutions for investing in the well-being of South Africa's low-income communities and advancing economic and social rights.
The Awards Dinner recognized Calvert Investments and Calvert Foundation for their commitment to socially responsible investment to rebuild and serve South Africa's poor communities. Prudential Financial, Inc. received the Corporate Award for serving as a leading example of corporate citizenship and social responsibility.
It also honored activist Vuyiseka Dubula and Treatment Action Campaign for combating HIV/AIDS.
More than 300 distinguished U.S. and African leaders gathered for the annual event, held at Gotham Hall. The evening's celebration raised funds for Shared Interest to provide black South African entrepreneurs with access to credit and technical support to launch small businesses, create jobs and build secure new communities.
Each year, Shared Interest presents awards to individuals and institutions that promote human rights, gender equality, economic justice, and democracy in South Africa.

Shared Interest presented a joint award to Calvert Investments and Calvert Foundation for their historic legacy and ongoing leadership in socially responsible investments. Prudential Financial, Inc. received the Corporate Award for a century of corporate social responsibility and investments in impoverished communities. As of December 31, 2010, Prudential's public investment units have over $300 million of client assets invested in South Africa.
