Sharefest Partners with Local General Contractor to Transform Kitchen in the Oldest Standing Fire House in Redondo Beach in Twelve Days

REDONDO BEACH, Calif., April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, April 28, 2012 Sharefest Community Development in partnership with John Pitzer, PCC, Inc. and a core team of skilled, volunteer contractors will have the opportunity to transform the kitchen at the Redondo Beach Fire Department's Station #1 on 401 S. Broadway.

As the second firehouse to be built in the city, this building was constructed in 1959 by Drew's Construction, and was the second home to Fire Chief C.E.Sneary. Fifty three years and eight Fire Chiefs later the kitchen countertops, sink and cabinets, remain original and are now damaged due to over use. Recently, Redondo Beach Fire Station #1 applied for an online contest sponsored by IKEA™ to win a kitchen remodel. Sadly, they did not receive the highest number of votes and missed out on the opportunity. This year, on Sharefest's 9th Annual Workday, April 28, 2012, Sharefest wants to give back to these unselfish men and women who risk their lives to save ours. Sharefest is calling on the community to come along side them and help rally support for this amazing cause.

While their only hope was to "win" the IKEA™ makeover contest, Sharefest's goal reaches far beyond simply replacing cabinets and a countertop. The plan is to upgrade the flooring, plumbing fixtures, dishwasher, refrigerators, washer and dryer, carpeting and flooring in the dorms and common areas, and upgrade the conference room as well. With the generous support of donors, corporations, skilled laborers and dedicated volunteers, Sharefest will be able to complete a nine month project in just twelve days. Normally a project this size would be in upwards of $250,000; however, it will be completed for just under $85,000.
