Sheriff Bill Gore and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher to Receive San Diego Crime Victims Fund 'Local Heroes Award'
Gala Event on August 28 to Pay Tribute to Local Heroes and Benefit Victims of Crime in San Diego County
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheriff Bill Gore and Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher will be honored as "Local Heroes" at a gala fundraiser to benefit the Crime Victims Fund on Saturday evening, August 28, in Rancho Santa Fe.
The Local Heroes Award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to assisting victims of crime in San Diego County.
Sheriff Gore is being honored for his work on behalf of crime victims in his capacity as sheriff of San Diego County and for his long-standing service on the board of directors of the Crime Victims Fund. Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher is being recognized for his work introducing Chelsea's Law to the California State Assembly.
All proceeds from the event will benefit victims of crime in San Diego, through the efforts of the Crime Victims Fund.
In addition to the Local Heroes Award, highlights of the evening will include:
- Works of art from local artists on display and for sale. Featured artists are Mark Jesinowski, Chris Elliman, Jenifer Broomberg, Juli Veee, Julia C.R. Gray, Ensley Pye, Lia Strell, Sean Brannan and Tim Walikis; Curator Dennis Batt.

About the Crime Victims Fund:
The Crime Victims Fund, http://www.crimevictimsfund.org, founded in 1982, has dispersed more than $1.5 million in victim assistance to over 10,000 crime victims in San Diego. The Crime Victims Fund provides short-term, immediate financial aid to victims of crime for such urgent necessities as food, housing, medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, burial fees, relocation costs, and other needs.
The Crime Victims Fund accepts victims referred by law enforcement agencies or other social service partners. Within 24 to 36 hours a check is issued to support the needs of the victim. Stipend amounts usually range from $25 to $500 and are paid directly to the vendor. Any crime victim in San Diego County may be eligible for support from Emergency Victim Assistance Program, depending on the individual victim's needs and financial resources.
