shomi™ is coming up aces with exclusive content deal with BBC Worldwide North America

TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2014 /CNW/ - Canada's premier subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, shomi™', doesn't faff around when it comes to great programming, announcing another impressive content deal that brings exclusive content from BBC Worldwide North America to its audience. Continuing to deliver on its promise to bring the best in popcorn and magic, shomi adds some of the most binge-worthy content from across the pond to its roster.

A Young Doctor's Notebook & Other Stories, from BBC Comedy starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, is making its Canadian premiere exclusively on shomi. The dark comedy, adapted from the autobiographical works of Russian author and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov has already captivated audiences across the U.S. and UK.  The series tells the story of a doctor looking back on his time practicing in a small village hospital and struggling with his progression to addiction. Also exclusively in Canada on shomi, the highly-charged Way to Go, from BBC Comedy and U.S. comedy writer Bob Kushell – a hilarious series about three ordinary guys who find themselves forced by an extraordinary set of circumstances into setting up an assisted-suicide business.

In addition, this content deal makes shomi the exclusive Canadian SVOD home to BBC Worldwide's series:

• Moone Boy, the Irish sitcom created, co-written and co-starring Chris O'Dowd
• Spy thriller The Honourable Woman, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal
• Investigative drama, Jane Campion's Top of the Lake starring Elizabeth Moss and Holly Hunter
• Comedy series The Wrong Mans from actor/writer duo Mathew Baynton and James Corden,

Also available through the deal are all the previous seasons of the hit franchises A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Doctor Who, and Top Gear.

shomi will be available starting in November to Rogers and Shaw Internet or TV customers at a suggested retail price of $8.99 per month. With an all-star lineup of exclusive past-seasons of many of the hottest shows on television as well as movie favourites, Canadians will be able to enjoy shomi online and on select tablets, mobile devices, and set top boxes.

shomi will launch in beta first to Rogers and Shaw Internet or TV customers. Enhanced features include trailers and factoids for movie titles to help customers make their selections, while an exceptional user interface delivers a unique theatrical experience. With the ability to add up to six profiles per account, shomi offers a great solution for the connected home, as customers can watch on two devices and their set top boxes at the same time.
