LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Moose Toys, one of the newest players to the U.S. toy industry, announced plans to air freight additional Shopkins products to meet the craze-worthy holiday demand. Shopkins is a popular new line of super cute, super tiny, grocery-themed characters that kids are going crazy for, making parents hunt madly in search of them. With more than six million Shopkins characters sold in less than four months, it's the hottest collectible toy this holiday season.
In addition to the brand's retail success, the Toy Industry Association of America (TIA) announced today that the Shopkins Small Mart Playset received a coveted Toy of the Year Award nomination for Girl Toy of the Year. Shopkins has also been recognized with top toy industry awards, including TTPM's Holiday 2014 Most Wanted List, Toy Insider "Hot 20" for 2014 and Savvy Auntie Coolest Toy Award 2014.
"We know that girls love all things miniature, so we created these cute collectible characters with intricate detailing," said Paul Solomon, Co-CEO of Moose Toys. "Kids have embraced Shopkins and they are anxious to build their collections, and we're working hard to keep the store shelves stocked for the holidays."
Moose launched Shopkins in July 2014 and built brand awareness with short-form video content featuring the Shopkins world, igniting the YouTube community to post their own Shopkins videos, including the popular blind bag reveal videos. To date, over eight million views on YouTube have helped spread the Shopkins love! Moose also conducted a national grassroots sampling program. However, even before it reached the target audience's hands; kids were taking to Shopkins so quickly that it sold out within two weeks in certain retail stores, taking the brand to the craze level that Moose didn't expect to happen so quickly.
Shopkins fans are also actively pursuing the Rare and Limited Edition Shopkins characters, along with the anticipation of a blind pack reveal. A quick look at any of the Shopkins social media platforms will show fans clamoring for information on where to find these elusive characters. In fact, one Limited Edition Shopkins character recently sold on eBay for nearly $350 (approximately $1.50 retail value). The Shopkins magic continues beyond the collectible appeal, as imaginative play takes over and girls give personalities and voices to a tiny bag of frozen peas or a carton of milk.
The fun is just getting started as the Shopkins family continues to grow. The highly-anticipated Season Two has over 140 new characters and four new themes, including Baby Bits and Shoes to Choose, featuring new flocked textures, details and surprises.
"Our viewers on Mommy and Gracie Show absolutely love Shopkins,"said Melissa Hunter, founder of YouTube channel Mommy and Gracie Show, with 250,000 subscribers. "They go crazy for our blind bag reveals and can't wait to see what's next in Season Two."
Season Two is expected to hit shelves shortly.
