Show of Support "Hunt For Heroes" Releases Plan To Disperse Funds For Victims

MIDLAND, Texas, Dec. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Receiving more than $400,000 in donations following the November 15 tragic accident in Midland, Texas, Show of Support, Military Hunt, Inc. has announced plans to distribute contributions.

"We are donating one hundred percent of all donations to help those healing during this difficult time," said Terry Johnson, founder of the non-profit organization that annually honors injured military veterans and their wives with a banquet and a whitetail deer hunt. "We can't say thank you enough for the outpouring of support from our community and nation, and we want that generosity to reach the victims and their families as quickly as possible."

In an effort to fairly disperse funds, Show of Support consulted with Kenneth Feinberg, a New York attorney instrumental in the distribution of funds following 9/11, the recent Aurora, Colorado movie theatre shootings and other tragedies where donations were received. 

"Mere compensation can never replace lives lost or bring satisfaction to those physically injured," said Feinberg.  "It is merely an effort by fellow citizens to come to the financial aid of those in distress."

"Mr. Feinberg offered his services without pay and we thank him for his guidance and expertise," Johnson added.

The preliminary plan calls for sixty percent of the donations to be equally divided among the deceased's families. The other forty percent will be allocated to those injured based on the number of days in the hospital.

Show of Support has notified victims of the proposed plan and has asked for their input. The plan is also posted on the non-profit's website for public comment.  Comments are welcome at [email protected] through Thursday, December 6, with funds distribution planned for December 17.

A final distribution is planned for March 1, 2013 for donations received after December 17.
