Sierra Wireless launches new AirPrime(TM) Intelligent Embedded Module for China Mobile TD-SCDMA network

AirPrime Q2668 module adds new air interface to the popular Q Series of wireless modules for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications

VANCOUVER, June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ: SWIR; TSX: SW) today announced the launch of a new product in its AirPrime(TM) Q Series of intelligent embedded modules. The Sierra Wireless AirPrime Q2668 is designed for the TD-SCDMA network of China Mobile, which has selected Sierra Wireless as a module development partner. Footprint compatible with all other AirPrime Q Series wireless modules, the AirPrime Q2668 is an industrial grade wireless module which lets Sierra Wireless customers rapidly extend their machine-to-machine (M2M) applications to the Chinese market.

The AirPrime Q2668 is a dual-mode TD-SCDMA HSDPA/EDGE module which enables data transmission speeds of up to 2.8 Mbps on the downlink and 384 Kbps on the uplink. It operates on the 1880-1920/2010-2025MHz TD-SCDMA bands and the 900/1800 GSM/GPRS/EDGE bands, and supports both USB 2.0 and serial port (RS232) interfaces, commonly used for industrial applications. It is controlled through an AT command interface.

The module contains an embedded protocol based on China Mobile's Wireless Machine-to-Machine Protocol, Version 3.0 (WMMP 3.0). Fully tested and certified, the protocol allows manufacturers to rapidly develop and deploy M2M applications for use on China Mobile's network without having to perform extensive development and testing, resulting in much faster time to market.

In addition, the WMMP 3.0 communication standard enables the connection of devices to the China Mobile M2M Platform, which allows users to manage and monitor M2M terminals in real-time, to communicate effectively via GPRS/SMS/USSD.
