Simmons College School of Social Work To Offer Advanced Standing for Its Online Master of Social Work (M.S.W)
BOSTON, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Simmons College School of Social Work, the nation's first school of social work to offer training and education to clinical social workers, today announced it would expand its innovative online Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program with the Advanced Standing Program, a new offering for eligible B.S.W students interested in a faster way to earn their M.S.W. degree.
The Advanced Standing M.S.W. enables eligible students with a successful foundation in undergraduate social work studies to utilize their B.S.W. towards an M.S.W. in a 37-credit program, rather than the traditional 65-credit program. To be eligible for the Advanced Standing Program, students must have received their B.S.W. within the last five years from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Applications are currently being accepted for the Advanced Standing M.S.W., which will start in July 2015.
"Qualified social workers are in demand across the nation," said Suzanne Sankar, M.S.W., Interim Dean, Simmons School of Social Work. "This new Advanced Standing M.S.W. allows eligible, motivated students to put their education on the fast track so that they can begin their social work careers sooner."
The online Advanced Standing Program is offered through SocialWork@Simmons, a dynamic, immersive seminar-style online program taught by the Simmons School of Social Work's dedicated faculty. Students in both the traditional and advanced standing programs will complete field education learning experiences in which they will apply their classroom knowledge of theoretical concepts, principles, values and ethics in a supervised practice. The curriculum and admissions standards for the online programs match the quality and rigor of Simmons' highly regarded campus-based programs.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts 6.9 million new jobs will be available in social services by 2018. Since the start of SocialWork@Simmons in February 2014, the Simmons School of Social Work has supported social work students in more than 40 states with studies in focus areas including mental health, healthcare and aging, and trauma and interpersonal violence.
SocialWork@Simmons is delivered in partnership with 2U Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU), which partners with leading colleges and universities to deliver the world's best online degree programs so students everywhere can reach their full potential.
SocialWork@Simmons enrolls new students in the traditional M.S.W. and Advanced Standing Program throughout the year.
