SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Seventeen-year-old viral sensation Pia Mia, anointed by Billboard as one of the eight "acts who will help define 2014," has been signed to Interscope Records, it was announced today. Her debut EP, The Gift (Wolfpack/Interscope Records), will be available at digital download and subscription services beginning February 25. Her song "Fight For You" featuring Chance The Rapper, will be released exclusively on the original motion picture soundtrack album for Divergent (Interscope Records), available March 11.
"When I met Pia and heard her sing I was floored," said Joie Manda President Urban Music, Interscope Records. "Artists of her magnitude come along very rarely. We are truly excited to help her become a global superstar."
The story of this Pacific island girl born and raised on Guam is surely the stuff pop star dreams are made of. In 2013, Ryan Seacrest debuted her independent single "Red Love" and the accompanying video premiered on Vevo. She now has more than 12 million YouTube views, more than four million SoundCloud streams, almost a million Instagram followers and a quarter-million Twitter followers.
Her rise began by posting cover songs on YouTube, which she continued after moving to Los Angeles in 2010. Then last year at a photo shoot for apparel brand Pink Dolphin, she met the company's CEO, Neima Khaila. Khaila became her manager and introduced Pia to Abou "Bu" Thiam, who manages Chris Brown and is also known for his A&R work with Rihanna, Kanye and Jay-Z. Thiam and enterprising entrepreneur Pia then partnered to form Wolfpack Entertainment, with Pia being the first artist signed to the label.
"I want to show everyone," said Pia, "that people from small places can achieve their dreams no matter how big they are."
