Single Dad Wins Tickets to Super Bowl
Fathers.com rewards a metal worker and his seven-year-old daughter with two Super Bowl tickets
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Apart from the occasional tie on Father's Day, dads do not traditionally receive gifts in recognition for their parenting efforts. But Jimmy Oliveira—who won two tickets to the Super Bowl through a nationwide video contest —is not your traditional dad.
Jimmy, an ironworker and single dad from Long Island, NY, won the tickets as part of the National Center for Fathering's efforts to "change the culture of fathering in America."
"Too many dads are not in the game when it comes to fathering," said Carey Casey, CEO of the National Center for Fathering (Fathers.com), which held the contest to raise awareness about the importance of fathering. "We're encouraging all men to join the Championship Fathering team and be the fathers and father figures our children need."
As part of their efforts to promote responsible fathering, Fathers.com held an online contest that asked fathers, their friends, and family members to submit videos. The winning video—submitted by Jimmy's sister Diana Marie Oliveira—featured Jimmy's seven-year-old daughter talking about her dad's devotion to her.
"My daddy is the best because he is the only daddy at the school on the PTA. He goes on my field trips, takes me to dance, plans my birthday parties," said Gina Marie Oliveira. "He even takes me to the dentist."
So who will Jimmy take to the big game in Indianapolis? Seven-year-old Gina Marie, of course!
Making the victory even sweeter, the father/daughter duo "go crazy for the New York Giants," said Gina Marie. Indeed, Jimmy celebrated his win by getting a New York Giants tattoo.
