Scottsdale Mayor W.J. "Jim" Lane and the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a breakfast at the Phoenician Resort on Feb. 15 to welcome the delegation to the city. Scottsdale is a Sister City to Haikou, the capitol of Hainan Island, China.
The Chinese State Council (the Chinese cabinet) designated Hainan as a "test case" to develop "an internationally competitive tourist destination" in a first-of-its-kind edict on Dec. 31, 2009.
"This conference represents a starting point for important economic and cultural exchange between our region and Hainan Island," said Greg Mastroieini, managing partner of SIVILIAN. "The meetings that take place next week will establish a foundation for exchange that will benefit Hainan Island and numerous organizations in the greater Scottsdale, Phoenix area."
"This visit marks an important milestone in our relationship with our sister city, Haikou," said Mayor Lane. "We believe this event will create relationships that benefit our friends in Haikou, the City of Scottsdale, and numerous sports and tourism businesses that operate in both of our countries."
