SkyWest, Inc. Reports Combined May 2016 Traffic for SkyWest Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines

ST. GEORGE, Utah, June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest, Inc., (NASDAQ: SKYW) ("SkyWest") today reported 164,955 block hours in May 2016, compared to 177,967 block hours in May 2015, a decrease of 13,012 or 7.3%.  The net decrease was consistent with SkyWest's fleet transition plan to improve the mix of aircraft in its fleet by adding new dual class aircraft to its fleet, while reducing its single class aircraft.  

The year-over-year net change was primarily driven by approximately 5,800 additional block hours from its dual class aircraft (E175s, CRJ900s and CRJ700s) and a decrease of approximately 18,800 block hours from fewer single class aircraft (CRJ200s, ERJ135s/145s and EMB120s). 

In May 2016, SkyWest's dual class aircraft represented approximately 43% of SkyWest's total block hour production for the month compared to approximately 37% for the month of May 2015.       

SkyWest reported 812,149 block hours for year-to-date May 2016, compared to 871,452 block hours year-to-date May 2015, a decrease of 59,303, or 6.8%.  This net change was primarily driven by approximately 35,000 additional block hours from its dual class aircraft and a decrease of approximately 94,300 block hours from fewer single class aircraft.

SkyWest had 98,927 departures in May 2016 compared to 105,011 in May 2015, a decrease of 6,084, or 5.8%.  SkyWest generated 2.93 billion available seat miles (ASMs) for May 2016, compared to 3.08 billion ASMs for May 2015, or a 5.0% decrease.  Additional flight statistics for May, including passengers enplaned, revenue passenger miles, and passenger load factors, are included in the accompanying table.
