Small Utah Company, Tactical Lighting Solutions, Bucks Trend of Overseas Manufacturing, Decision Impacts 12 Production Plants Across Eight American States
MOAB, Utah, April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Tactical Lighting Solutions (TLS) of Moab, UT produces the LazerBrite® product line, a waterproof modular handheld LED light system, extensively used by the U.S. Army & Marines. The small company's decision to design, manufacture and assemble the product exclusively in the USA is an important part of their organizational values. In addition to providing local assembly jobs, TLS believes that manufacturing in America, instead of overseas, adds marketing value as they promote their new category in personal lighting.

According to Greg and Doug Kennedy, co-founders of TLS, 12 different American manufacturers from cities within Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Texas, Utah and Washington create the custom components and packaging for their products. They say even the tiniest of pieces—from plastic molds, coil springs, color-pigment to metal washers are produced from within the United States and shipped to Moab, Utah for local assembly and packaging.
The Kennedy brothers see their decision to manufacture in the U.S. as a small but important contribution to Americas economic woes. "We are just a small company out of Moab, but, if our one product line supports this many American manufacturers and states," advises Greg Kennedy "…imagine the impact on our economy if more small businesses follow this lead."
When asked if U.S. production drives up costs, the Kennedy's are quick to point out that the military uses their light as a re-usable, cost-saving technology to replace one time use chemical lights (glowsticks) while also increasing soldier visibility and safety. Moreover, they claim the Lazerbrite® line is in the rare position of providing a technology upgrade in emergency preparation, while reducing costs for most users.
The Kennedy's invented LazerBrite® in the spring of 1998. They now hold five patents for the product line, with two pending. Each light can be used as a flashlight and a glow-stick at the same time, as well as separate into two lights or be linked with additional lights. The lights range in price from $29.99 to $39.99 each—providing consumers an affordable option for emergency preparation gear and outdoor recreation.
