Smart Insurance Company Appoints John Gardynik CEO

New Leader Brings Over 25 Years of Health Care Experience to Company

SOLON, Ohio, May 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Smart Insurance Company (www.smartdrx.com) announced today the appointment of Dr. John Gardynik, PharmD, as Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Company's Board of Directors. Dr. Gardynik has held a number of leadership roles in the health care industry, most recently as Senior Vice President at MedImpact Health Systems, one of the nation's largest full-service Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM).

Prior to his role at MedImpact, Dr. Gardynik was Senior Vice President of First Health Services, a PBM formerly owned by Coventry Health Care and now a wholly owned subsidiary of Magellan Health Services. He also served as President and General Manager of RxAmerica, LLC, and Accendo Insurance Company, the PBM and Part D businesses, respectively, formerly owned by Long Drug Stores, which was ultimately acquired by CVS Caremark. Dr. Gardynik received both a Doctorate in Pharmacy and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan.
