BELLEVUE, Wash., June 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Smartsheet, the world's leading SaaS application for managing and automating collaborative work, today announced the appointment of Gene Farrell as senior vice president of product. Farrell joins Smartsheet from Amazon Web Services (AWS), where he was vice president of enterprise applications. In his new position at Smartsheet, he will provide leadership and technology vision over the product management, product marketing and partner marketing teams for the fast-growing collaborative work management application.
"Gene is a proven business leader with a track record of being on the cutting edge of meaningful technology innovation," said Mark Mader, CEO of Smartsheet. "As we continue to unlock the potential of collaborative work management for the enterprise, Gene will play an important role in planning and executing Smartsheet's long-term product vision."
Farrell's distinguished career includes over two decades of experience creating and leading transformational lines of business within industry leading companies. As SVP of product at Smartsheet, he will bring this experience to the product vision and go-to-market strategy for product releases and enhancements to the company's offerings.
Farrell, a Northwest native, spent 24 years at The Coca Cola Company, where his last role was vice president and general manager of the Coca-Cola Freestyle Business Unit. In that position he founded and led the internal start-up team that created Coca-Cola Freestyle, an award-winning retail technology and one of the largest innovation projects in the history of the company. After moving back to the Seattle-area in 2012, he joined Amazon where he helped fuel the historic growth of AWS, founding and leading teams that built a collection of cloud services.
"Smartsheet is creating what I believe will be the next wave of enterprise productivity tools and I am excited to be part of this mission at such an important time in the growth of the company," Farrell said. "I look forward to leading the team that will continuously innovate to solve customer problems and broaden Smartsheet's impact on the future of work."
Farrell's hire follows a $52.1 million Series F funding round and a period of rapid growth in which Smartsheet's revenue increased by more than 60 percent year-over-year for the past five years.
