SOAPware and Medens to Empower Puerto Rico Physicians with EMR Technology

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- SOAPware, Inc., a leading developer of certified Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) and Practice Management (PM) software, announced today a new agreement with IBM, ActiveHealth Management and Medens Corporation to provide the cloud-based SOAPware EMR/PM to medical practices implementing the Medens Cloud, based on the solution for collaborative care from IBM and ActiveHealth Management.

The agreement is designed to rapidly accelerate the availability of healthcare information technology to aid in the delivery of smarter healthcare to both physicians and patients. Medens Corp. will initially focus on delivering the technology to the island of Puerto Rico, where EMR adoption is less than 6%, before rolling out the cloud-based Solution to physicians nationwide.

The Medens Cloud creates a more productive and efficient way for physicians to run all aspects of their practice. For one fixed monthly fee, doctors in Puerto Rico will have access to all the healthcare information technology and services of the SOAPware EMR/PM and the Collaborative Care Solution, without having to make significant upfront investments. It also incorporates IBM's Health Information Exchange technology - allowing healthcare providers in the region to work within an interoperable system to securely share data, which is based on the same stringent standards as health information exchanges across the United States.

The Medens Cloud system, with SOAPware as the EMR, will also enable physicians to qualify for up to $44,000-$65,000 in HITECH stimulus funds. The HITECH Act was spawned from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and is designed to incent physicians to adopt, and meaningfully use, certified EMR systems.
