SoCalGas Supports Mayor Eric Garcetti, LADWP Energy Efficiency Goal of 15% by 2020

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) supports Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti's recent announcement of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's (LADWP) Energy Efficiency goal of 15 percent by year 2020, the highest and most ambitious energy efficiency goal by a major municipal utility in the United States. The new goal, adopted by Mayor Garcetti's appointees to the LADWP board of directors in August 2014, exceeds the 10-year, 10-percent energy efficiency requirements set by Assembly Bill 2021. Mayor Garcetti also announced this goal will create jobs while promoting energy savings for customers.

About two years ago, SoCalGas joined with LADWP to launch 11 joint energy efficiency programs. The innovative joint utility partnership has helped save electricity, natural gas and water in the city of Los Angeles. These programs offer financial incentives to help property and business owners create environmentally friendly, energy-efficient communities where they work and live.

• Savings by Design – The Savings By Design Program offers up-front design assistance, owner incentives, design team incentives, and energy design resources to encourage energy-efficient building design and construction practices for new nonresidential buildings.
• California Advanced Homes – The California Advanced Homes Program helps residential new construction projects exceed California's building codes and standards by providing financial incentives and technical assistance.
• Energy Upgrade California – The Energy Upgrade California Program offers financial incentives to homeowners for completing comprehensive energy-saving home improvements.
• LA Better Buildings Challenge – The Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge is an innovative initiative that supports Los Angeles property owners and managers in executing cost-effective building performance upgrades to achieve 20-percent energy and water savings by 2020.
