The grant awards will be used to help the recipients deliver services more efficiently, facilitate cooperation across federal and state workforce programs and funding streams, and expand partnerships with specific employers or industry sectors to develop programs that reflect current and future skill needs. Florida DEO and the Upjohn Institute are two of 11 state workforce agencies and local workforce investment boards across nine states that received a total of $50.7 million in grant awards in the second round of competitions under the Workforce Innovation Fund.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity will be utilizing the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) grant to support the development of a performance-based funding program that rewards the state's regional workforce boards for measurable improvements and excellence in service to job seekers and businesses. Their new performance funding program will harness state-of-the-art technology as well as real-time data to propel their system to even stronger outcomes as they continue to promote excellence and innovative solutions.
