Sodexo Partner Benedictine University Wins Baseball and Softball Facilities Field of the Year Award
Sodexo delivers on playability, appearance and innovative solutions
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Jan. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodexo, leader in Quality of Daily Life Solutions, manages 35 college sports facilities across the country and helped its client partner at Benedictine University become the recipient of the coveted Sports Turf Management Association's field of the year award for its outstanding baseball and softball fields.
"We strive to create exceptional experiences for all students, including athletes and their fans," said Tom Post, Sodexo president of education – campus. "We're thrilled to be part of the STMA recognition of Benedictine University because we know that the quality of the field builds hometeam pride and allows athletes to perform optimally."
Kari Allen has been Sodexo's fields superintendant for more than three years and is a Certified Sports Field Manager with a degree in Turf Grass Management. Sodexo's team at Benedictine University also includes Peter Charcut, who has more than 35 years grounds experience and a degree in Ornamental Horticulture.
"The Field of the Year Award validates the intense dedication of our members," says Kim Heck, CEO of the Sports Turf Managers Association, the sponsoring organization of the award. "Each year STMA awards no more than 14 Fields of the Year, so a very small percentage of our members are winners. Kari Allen, CSFM and her crew are very deserving of this prestigious award for Benedictine University."
A panel of six judges independently scored each entry based on the playability and appearance of the playing surfaces, innovative solutions employed, effective use of budget, and the development and implementation of a comprehensive, sound agronomic program.
The STMA award program, established in 1992, to recognize five types of fields including baseball, football, soccer, softball and sporting grounds in the three categories of professional, college and university, and schools and parks presented nine awards this year.
