SOL Organics Disrupts the Online Bedding Industry

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SOL Organics has reinvented the pricing formula for luxury bedding, putting fair-trade organic cotton linens in greater reach of all consumers.
Disrupting the online bedding market, SOL Organics is proving that fair-trade organic cotton sheets can meet consumers' demands for luxury bedding while also meeting their desires for equitable, safe, environmentally sustainable conditions for those who produce them. A Fair Deal: SOL Organics' Innovative Fair Price Model
SOL Organics believes so strongly in the social and economic value of fair trade, they've locked it into their pricing. They call it the SOL Organics Fair Price Model.
Here's how it works. The premium for choosing fair-trade organic cotton over conventionally produced cotton is about 10-15 percent. That's the additional expense, over the base cost of goods and labor, for choosing to compensate farmers and workers fairly and to conserve land and water resources.
To SOL Organics, the premium seems like a small price to pay in return for a huge impact. And they're committed to keeping it that way. To make fair-trade organic cotton accessible to all, they refuse to inflate that premium through the sales chain (which means they do not take any markup on the premium, the freight & the duty)—unlike many of their competitors. That means the profit they make is strictly on the first cost of the goods. And because they sell online directly to consumers, their prices and distribution costs are extremely competitive and affordable.
Fair trade makes great sense to the founders of SOL Organics. And they want it to make sense to consumers, too. That's why they're committed to keeping fair-trade organic cotton within reach. Fair and square. To view the Fair Price model visit: https://solorganix.com/pages/sol-mission
Investing in Quality without Compromise
Their bedding collection is produced from fair-trade certified, fine long-staple organic cotton from India. According to co-founder Vishal Naithani, "India produces the world's strongest and finest non-GMO organic cotton fibers. Longer staple fibers produce stronger, smoother yarns due to fewer open ends and breaks, which makes for smoother, softer, more comfortable sheets."
The brand's tagline—Uncompromising Luxury™—emphasizes SOL Organics' commitment to both makers and consumers of their critically acclaimed bedding.
"Our mission equally values our farmers, our factory workers and our customers," Naithani said. "Every farmer and factory worker deserves to work and live in a clean, safe environment and get paid livable wages. They shouldn't have to worry about touching their children with hands that have been immersed in toxic pesticides all day."
Naithani wants to see organic cotton go mainstream similar to how organic food has in recent years. "Every family should have access to affordable organic cotton—just like they have access to affordable organic food," he said. "It shouldn't be only the 1 percent that can afford premium luxury products."
SOL Organics champions three priorities:
- Organic for the Planet. The organic process creates a healthier environment that benefits disadvantaged farmers, their families and their communities.
- Fair Trade for the Farmer. By paying fair-trade premiums for materials and wages, workers have a higher standard of living, now and for future generations.
- A Fair Price for You. SOL Organics wants to see organic cotton become mainstream and affordable for all. When this happens, everyone wins.
Fair Markup Makes Organic Linens More Affordable
SOL Organics has built its business model on broadening a niche market and making fair-trade organic cotton more widely accessible to all. The company's markup rate is half that of its online competitors, and a fourth of traditional brick-and-mortar retail stores. That means SOL Organics duvet covers and sheet sets start at $99. https://solorganix.com/collections/organic-cotton-duvet-covers
"We are changing that model to make organic cotton affordable for all people, and therefore increasing the demand for organic cotton," Naithani said. "By creating affordable luxury bedding, we are creating a tipping point in the market that will further expand demand for organic cotton."
