In late 2013 when the mortgage interest rates increased by 1%, it became increasingly difficult to maintain profitable numbers because the amount of viable prospects decreased since the rates went up. Mr. Solomon was trying to find other verticals to get into that deal with the same type of prospect, and wouldn't need a drastic change in his business model. This was around the time when marketing services for solar installers were in need, so the decision was made to start all over from scratch with an emphasis on solar.
With the small amount of money that came in from orders and borrowing some money from family, Mr. Solomon and one other employee focused all their energy on growing the company. They found a broker who needed solar leads for a major solar installer, which was their first big step into the market. The two generated leads themselves working 12-14 hours a day, making the best of what they had at the time generating a low volume of leads on a daily basis.
Slowly but surely more demand came in for a higher volume of leads, 1-2 more people were hired to assist in generating leads. It then became 3-4 people; eventually by July 2014 the company had around 15 people. In late July 2014 Solar Media Team landed a major contract with another marketing company who needed a high volume of leads on a daily basis so the company continued to organically grow month after month.
The last 5 months of 2014 Solar Media Team grew at a rapid pace. In February of 2015 Solar Media Team lost the contract due to the marketing provider deciding to service the accounts themselves; the company was forced to let many people go. This was a major blow to the company, but not enough to stop the company on its mission to be the largest solar lead generator.
Over the course of the last year, Solar Media Team took all the mistakes they learned, changing their entire business model around which became the secret to their success. From March 2015 to current day they went from 35 people now to over 115 people and growing. There are 6 managers who each oversee a team of up to 25 people, 5 quality assurance managers, 2 administrators who manage the database, and software/computer systems, 2 in accounting, and 3 additional upper management administrators.
Every single administrator/manager has worked their way up starting in lead generation and were promoted within. Solar Media Team's owners believe in promoting within, and that every single person should take ownership of their role to be an active contributor to the success of the company.
