Solferino Gold Mine -- Site of Rare 60-Feet Wide Mesothermal Vein Structure -- Receives Final Environmental Permit for Production
Summary: A historic gold mine founded in 1851 in Antioquia, Colombia, has received its environmental permit after five years of preliminary developing and pre-production work. The Solferino gold deposit, a mesothermal vein structure, is placing among the top one percent of the world's gold mines.
MEDELLIN, Colombia, March 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Colombia Reserva De Oro is thrilled to announce that they recently received the environmental permit for the Solferino Gold Mine in Antioquia, Colombia, on concession title #5913 dated January 19, 2016. The project had initially received technical approval for this permit on July 23, 2015 and again on December 14, 2015 following a request from the relevant authorities for additional information. This enabled production to begin immediately after that date for the extraction of the initial target block of 150,000 troy ounces at this high-grade gold mine.
Solferino Gold Mine is among the most significant finds in the geological history of Antioquia, the 'Golden Triangle' of Colombia. Antioquia region has the highest concentration of gold in the country, the South American nation with the greatest volume and concentration of the precious metal. This historic mine dates back to 1851, paralleling the era of the California gold rush. The average gold per ton is over 15 grams, within the quartz vein mineralization structures as wide as 60 feet. Solferino Gold Mine is a mesothermal vein structure, which places it in a category among the top one percent of gold mines throughout the world. Within the Colombian gold mining industry, the yellow metal extracted in Solferino is called "800 gold."
Franyo Zapatta, CEO, lead geologist, and registered QP at Solferino Gold Mine, says, "It's known as the 'Rolls Royce' of gold," and that "the mineralization at Solferino is very unique, having an impressive amount of coarse gold. According to independent metallurgical testing completed in Canada and South Africa, as well as at our on-site testing pilot plant, more than 90 percent of the gold is so-called 'free gold,' which is easily recovered by grinding and concentrating it in a gravitational process, making both the extraction and production of gold very simple and environmentally friendly."
Mesothermal veins, in this kind of geological environment, are known for their large size and continuation to depth, and they have historically been a major source of the world's gold production. The vast majority of gold mine veins are less than 5 feet wide and often occur in parallel sets. The great potential of Solferino could be compared to the Frontino Gold Mine, another mesothermal vein. It is in the general region of Solferino, and has produced more than 5 million ounces of gold during its 150-plus years of continual operation. Therefore, Solferino Gold Mine has the amazing potential to be operational well into the 22nd century.
Christopher Paulick, founder and Chairman of the Board of Colombia Reserva De Oro, recently said, "We are excited to finally be in production. We have been developing this mine and its infrastructure for the past five years, and will continue to work hard in order to make this the most efficient and productive mine in Antioquia. Our main focus is to maximize the current existing pilot plant, and reach our daily range of 100 tons of ore with an average of 15 grams of gold per ton. We are steadily increasing capacity and our ability to recover the gold."
The aim of Colombia Reserva De Oro is to become the leader in Colombian gold mining, including economically, environmentally, and culturally.
Paulick continues, "We have built a solid foundation with government and community leaders. This unique relationship is very important and helpful in creating good jobs and other economic opportunities for people who live in the community around the Solferino Gold Mine.
