"Solidarite Haiti" France Televisions and Radio France, Along With the Fondation de France, Appeal for Generosity

PARIS, January 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Haiti was struck by a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.0, causing a large number of deaths and injuries, as well as immense material destruction.

Faced with the enormity of the catastrophe, France Televisions and Radio France have joined with the Fondation de France in making an appeal for generosity in order to bring assistance to the most vulnerable of the affected population.

All France Televisions channels, RFO radio stations and Radio France stations will be making an appeal for donations. The TV News editions are all devoting significant time to covering the disaster, with regular updates on the situation as it develops in Haiti.

Having played a major part in collecting donations in aid of victims of the Tsunami in 2004, the Fondation de France has demonstrated its expertise and its capacity to respond to the urgent needs of victims, by:

    - bringing emergency relief to those in the greatest danger
    - acting to rebuild and to restart economic activity
    - bringing psychological help to the people most seriously affected.

The sums collected via "Solidarite Haiti" will be redistributed to the organisations bringing aid to the victims of the earthquake, once immediate rescue operations have been carried out. They will be targeted at assisting a return to normal life so that those most affected can regain their confidence and their dignity.

The Fondation de France will continue to ensure financial management and the supervision of projects that have been financed, for as long as may be necessary.

At the end of this operation, a report on the sums spent will be made public.
