ST. LOUIS, March 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Solutia Inc. (NYSE: SOA) reports that no one was injured at the company's facility in Kashima, Japan during Friday's earthquake, which was centered about 250 kilometers from Kashima. Employees of Solutia's Tokyo office also were safe after the quake.
Solutia confirmed the safety of all employees and their families in the region over the weekend, and the company is working to assess and support their needs during this tragedy.
No damages were reported at Solutia's manufacturing facility in Kashima. The facility lost power during the quake, and operations there have been temporarily suspended. Solutia's other sites in Asia and around the globe remain fully operational and were not threatened by Friday's earthquake or subsequent tsunami advisories.
The Kashima facility is supplied with a sufficient amount of inventory to support current commitments during this period, especially because it was preparing for a scheduled turnaround that required additional stored inventory. Overall, Japan accounts for about 4 percent of Solutia's revenue.
The company's main concern remains the safety of its employees, their families and our facilities. Solutia continues to work to support our personnel, operations, colleagues and friends in Japan during this time.
