SonoSim Launches OB/GYN Test Prep for the ARDMS Obstetrics and Gynecology Examination

SonoSim OB/GYN Test Prep is the second ARDMS specialty preparation resource SonoSim has released. The first, SonoSim SPI Test Prep, covers the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) examination. A third test prep covering the ARDMS Abdomen (AB) examination is scheduled for release in early 2027.

What SonoSim OB/GYN Test Prep includes

SonoSim OB/GYN Test Prep is organized to match the ARDMS OB/GYN examination content outline. Learners practice by content area, then practice with unlimited timed mock exams weighted to mirror the structure of the actual examination.

Every question includes a detailed rationale for the correct answer and explanations of why each incorrect answer is incorrect. Questions incorporate text-based scenarios, still ultrasound images, and video clips, reflecting the range of content encountered in ultrasound education and assessment. Particular emphasis is placed on image interpretation, recognizing its central role in both clinical practice and the ARDMS Obstetrics and Gynecology examination.

About the ARDMS OB/GYN examination

The Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) examination is administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). According to ARDMS, the exam includes about 170 questions delivered over three hours, including a five-minute survey, and uses both multiple-choice and hotspot question formats. Scores range from 300 to 700, and a score of 555 or better passes.

The OB/GYN examination is a qualifying specialty examination for the RDMS credential. Candidates must also pass the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) examination and pass both examinations within five years of each other, in either order.

ARDMS states that the examination assesses knowledge of gynecologic pelvic anatomy and physiology, obstetrics across the first, second, and third trimesters, protocols and procedures, and physics and instrumentation.

ARDMS-reported pass rates for the OB/GYN examination in 2023 were 79 percent for first-time takers and 74 percent overall.

Building on SPI Test Prep

In an April 2026 SonoSim learner survey of 206 SPI examination takers, regular SPI Test Prep users had 4.08 times the odds of passing the SPI examination compared with non-users (OR 4.08; 95% CI, 1.87–8.89). Pass rates increased with greater Test Prep usage, from 37.3% among non-users to 58.9% among occasional users and 70.8% among regular users, with a statistically significant trend across usage levels (p < 0.001).
