EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J., Oct. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SorinRand LLP today announced the appointment of Jason C. Chumney as counsel in the firm's intellectual property practice. The firm's IP practice continues to grow rapidly as the firm's patent, trademarks, trade secrets and licensing attorneys advise clients in virtually all technology sectors, ranging from life sciences to information technologies, alternative energy and nanotechnology, among others.  With more than a decade of experience, Chumney will further strengthen SorinRand's team of leading lawyers and reinforce its commitment to developing creative, effective solutions that meet the needs of emerging growth and middle-market technology and tech-enabled enterprises. 

Based in the law firm's East Brunswick, New Jersey office, Chumney devises intellectual property strategies, prepares and prosecutes patents, and manages substantial patent portfolios on behalf of SorinRand's growing client base.  He also prepares validity, infringement and patent landscape opinions in a variety of arts.  In addition to patent law, Chumney structures, negotiates and drafts license agreements, including agreements between corporate and non-profit research organizations, universities and its faculty and student-inventors, and more.  His areas of specialty include:  small molecules; medical devices; biologics; personal care products; energy; and information technology.

In 2002, Chumney started his legal career at a renowned New York-based patent law firm where he managed large patent portfolios; navigated domestic and foreign patent prosecution; handled transactional due diligence in regard to intellectual property law; and litigation matters, including oral argument before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.  In 2007, he joined the New York office of a national law firm where he handled all sectors of intellectual property practice.
